European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the world’s leading research institutions, conducting basic research in the life sciences. As intergovernmental organisation, it comprises 23 member states and operates from six sites across Europe. Research in the 85 independent research groups emphasises experimental analysis at multiple levels of biological organisation, from the molecule to the organism, as well as computational biology, bioinformatics and systems biology. The main site located in Heidelberg. The institute strongly promotes interdisciplinary research, scientific training and international collaborations in life sciences. EMBL’s education facility, the European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) aims to bridge the gap between research and school. ELLS has a long-standing expertise of linking scientists with secondary school science students and teachers through multifaceted training activities and programs.
