Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK)

The MPIK is one out of 86 institutes and research establishments of the Max Planck Society. Founded in 1958, its initial scientific goals were basic research in nuclear physics and cosmic physics and chemistry. Today, the institute performs both experimental and theoretical basic research on two interdisciplinary fields: Astroparticle Physics (Crossroads of Particle Physics and Astrophysics) and Quantum Dynamics (Dynamics of Atoms and Molecules). The institute consists of five divisions and several independent research groups mostly led by young physicists. Scientists at the MPIK collaborate with other research groups from all over the world. They are involved in a large number of international collaborations, partly in a leading role.
